A Table Built From Home

Every great restaurant starts the same way — with someone who refuses to let a recipe, a memory, or a community be forgotten.

The Story of JSK

Cooking Was Never Just Cooking

Long before JSK had a name above the door, it had a table. Katy grew up understanding that food was never just food — it was how a family stayed close, how a community welcomed a stranger, how a whole culture could travel in a single pot of simmering rice. Every dish carried a story: who taught it, who it was made for, what it meant to sit down and share it.

When Katy set out to build a restaurant of her own, there was only one honest place to start: Sénégal. Not a diluted, fast-casual version of it — the real thing. Thieboudienne simmered the slow way. Yassa marinated until the onions turn golden and sweet. Meat sourced halal and prepared fresh, because cutting that corner was never on the table.

The name says it plainly: Jollof Sénégal Kitchen — Representing Sénégal and Africa. Not one dish. Not one trend. A whole culture, cooked with the same care Katy grew up watching at home.

Why St. Louis

Choosing a City That Already Loved Sénégal Back

It's not a coincidence that Sénégalese flavor found a home here. St. Louis, Missouri has carried a sister-city bond with Saint-Louis, Sénégal since 1994 — two cities separated by an ocean, connected by history, students, artists, and now, a kitchen. Katy built JSK to be the table where that 30-year friendship finally gets to sit down and eat together.

Our Journey

From an Idea to a Grand Opening

The Dream

Katy set out to bring Sénégal's true, home-style flavors to St. Louis — made from scratch, prepared halal, and shared with everyone, regardless of where they're from.

Building The Kitchen

Every recipe on the JSK menu was tested, tasted, and perfected the way it was learned — no shortcuts, no substitutions on quality or halal integrity.

Sunday, August 9

JSK opened its doors on New Halls Ferry Rd with a Grand Opening the whole neighborhood was invited to — Eat For Free, one day only, a thank-you to the community before a single dollar was ever asked for.

Today

JSK is open every day, dine-in or takeout, serving families, gatherings, and restaurant partners across St. Louis — proud to represent Sénégal and Africa, one plate at a time.

"I want people to walk in as strangers and leave like family. That's the whole business plan."

— Katy, Owner & Founder

The People Behind Your Table

A restaurant is only as good as the people running it. Here's who's actually in the building.

👩🏾‍🍳

Katy

Owner & Founder

Katy built JSK from the ground up — the recipes, the halal standard, the name above the door. She still treats every plate that leaves the kitchen like it's going out to her own family, because in a lot of ways, it is.

🧑🏾‍💼

Price

General Manager

Price runs the floor day to day — making sure every order comes out right, every guest is looked after, and the standard Katy set on day one never slips, even on the busiest nights.

🤝

And Growing

Kitchen & Front of House

Behind every plate is a kitchen and front-of-house team growing right alongside the restaurant. More faces and stories are coming to this page soon — this table has room for a lot more names.
